Butterfly Party - Number Wreath!

If you have been a long time reader here you'll know I like a good wreath or similar hanging on the front door to welcome guests. Remember my Rainbow Ribbon Wreath, Thong Wreath from Australia Day, Halloween Wreath and the Soccer flag I made for Harris' last b'day?... For Milla's Butterfly Party in a few weeks I wanted something fun, butterfly-ish but also really like the idea of the Number Wreaths I've seen around - so with my hot glue gun at the ready I got crafting.


Onto an old cardboard box I free hand drew the number 4. I then cut it out and used it as my template to cut out another four the same and hot glued them all together just to make it nice and strong.



Then did the same again onto scrapbooking paper in a colour to match the party and glued it to the top of the number (if you were keen you could go around and put paper on all the sides too but I figure no one will see there so I didn't bother)


Once that was all dry I took my three sizes of butterfly cut outs I had left over from the other little projects from this party and folded them all in half down the body so the wings look like they are fluttering. Starting with the largest size paper butterflies I hot glue gunned just the body (let the wings stand) sporadically all over the number.


Next I took my middle sized paper butterflies and glued away.


Then lastly filled in all the little gaps with my tiny paper butterflies.



With a ribbon attached to the back it's all ready to hang - Yay!

Fabric shopping heaven

My sister has recently arrived home from a 5 week road trip through the US. Of course she had a ball and has oodles of stories to tell while we flick through her 100's of photos but when I flicked past these beauties I just had to go a little slower!




The photos are of an amazingly tidy, organised and HUGE fabric shop somewhere in San Francisco and looks allot like fabric shopping heaven to me.
Check out their front window - full of vintage sewing machines - so very cool!!


If it were me on this trip I would have needed to buy a second suitcase just to get the fabric I would have bought home ;)

Marrying A Fireman Survival Kit

In just 2 short weeks my little brother (not so little anymore but I like to still say it just to bug him) is marrying his sweetheart - awwwww. I can't wait to see all their garden wedding plans come together and the two of them to enjoy their day... oh and I'll finally get to put together the candy buffet I am creating for them as a gift too - more on that after the wedding though.

Tomorrow is the Hen's Day (or for any US readers: bridal shower). We are having a fun and relaxed lunch together at a Tapas restaurant in Manly - lots of chatting, eating & giggles! Like normal I can't go empty handed but with instructions not to bring gifts I put my thinking cap on to come up with a fun box of goodies for the bride to be to open... something a little different to the Bridal Survial Kits I've seen around I had a play with it and make it suit the couple. My brother is a fireman so I came up with this:

"Marrying A Fireman Survival Kit"


In the box is:

A pack of tooth picks - to help her pick out his hero qualities
A jar of Tabasco sauce - to keep it hot and saucy
A pack of Lifesavers - for her when he is busy being someone else's
A pair of panty hose - to create a ladder he can climb
A roll of yellow caution tape - 'to warn him when he's in trouble'
A tube of burn cream - in case of fireman accidents
A pack of Sparklers - to keep the spark alive
A hose hanger - Somewhere to hang his hose (this one will surely get some giggles)


All pack in yellow and red tissue paper with a note on top that says:
"If you are going to say 'I Do' to a fireman,
There are a few things you'll need first to help your plan.
Enclosed are some goodies to help you survive,
To make it last forever & for the 2 of you to thrive"

What are your plans this weekend? A lazy one? a busy one? a cruisy one?
On Sunday I am taking part in the 10km Run4Fun... Should be a good day and a bit of fun even though Mr Weather Man is predicting a 32 degree day - Ouch! So on that note tomorrow I plan to attempt (it's left up to the kiddies really) a sleep in - stay snug in my bed under my doona for just a few minutes longer than a week day!


Speaking of doonas, how cute is this Ditsy Pennants Duvet Cover from Urban Outfitters. You'd be needing to pull me out of bed every morning if I owned this cause I'd never want to get up!!

Butterfly Party - Butterfly Straws!

I know straws aren't *needed* for a party but almost all kids like a fun straw to sip their drink from and these are such a cute and super easy way to continue a theme for a party into the table ware I had to have a play and thought you might like to know how to do it.

YOU'LL NEED:
* Straws - plastic, paper, stainless steel, striped, spotty, white, coloured - whatever you have or can get your hands on or suits your theme is perfect.
* Scissors
* Paper shape - in my case butterflies but you could do cars, hearts, rainbow, a letter or number... anything to match your theme.
NOTE: I bought my shapes from HERE all pre cut and in the colours I wanted to make life super easy. But if you want you can buy a craft punch the shape you want and some scrap booking paper in the colours/patterns you need and make the shapes yourself.


Step 1.
Take your shape and fold in half.


Step 2.
With your scissors snip two little slits across the fold into the shape. They should be approx half an inch apart depending on your shape size.


Step 3.
Unfold shape and insert your straw though the two slits so the shape is held in place on the straw.
