A little bedroom makeover

I don't watch heaps of TV - I'd rather sew at the end of a day to unwind. But if I do happen to find myself on the couch with a cup of tea I always seem to flick to any 'lifesyle', 'makeover', 'DIY' show that might be on. I LOVE seeing before and after shots of homes, gardens, rooms and always sit there thinking - I could/should do that!

Well I finally jumped in and gave hubby and my bedroom a little spruce up/makeover. This is the BEFORE:

Nothing hideous just not very welcoming or 'us'. When we moved into our home late last year we spoilt ourselves and bought a brand new bed that we love and also had white plantation shutters put in. Since then we hadn't touched our room and I was starting to let my mind wander about adding a splash of colour when I decided on yellow! Mixed with some charcoal, grey and black I had found my colour palette and went hunting for some bedroom goodies...

I decided to do this all in secret and waited till all the bits and pieces I had ordered online arrived before I put them all in our room. That night hubby came home from work to a whole new room (and loves it).

AFTER:

Not great pics but you get the idea.

L & V letters, R letter, O letter, E letter, ornate yellow frame, vintage yellow clock, custom I love you alphabet print, For Like Ever poster, Matt Blatt wingback armchair from eBay (bargain!!), floor lamp, doona cover and sheets from Sheridan POP range - you have to check them out! you can play around with a virtual bed to mix and match sheets, pillows, doonas etc!!, Pillow cases from eBay, European pillow cases the armchair cushion and the small throw cushion on the bed I made myself from fabrics I bought on etsy and eBay. Photos are ones we had and I wanted to put up to make the room more 'us'.

We have a 'new' room and I had a ball putting it together... I'm tempted to pull out as paintbrush now to add some yellow stripes to one of our walls.... look out!

The Decal Tree

Hooray! We are in our new house, unpacked and LOVING it!!! It was a action packed weekend moving but with babysitting help from my wonderful mother in law we had it all done much faster than we thought.
It might seem a little crazy but as we were childless for the night and we hadn't yet put together the kids beds etc (and with a bit of general 'new house' excitement) I decided, at about 7pm on the day we moved in, I would 'play' with the huge tree decal I had bought for Milla's room.

Before: Blank wall in Milla's room

After:

This was such a fun project, a BIG project but a fun one!

The decal (from this etsy shop) came in about 57,000 pieces... alright maybe not that many but there were allot! The trunk was in two sections, each branch was one piece, then there was the smaller branches, each animal was separate, each acorn, and every individual leaf - I didn't mind though because that gave me a bit of 'creative license' to make it however I wanted.

The process:

The tree trunk and beginning to place the branches

branches all done

All the birdies, nest, squirrel and acorns in place - at this point it was about 10pm and the day of moving house had hit me so I packed up for the night and went to bed.

Up bright and early the next day (after a lovely breakfast out with my gorgeous hubby) I started placing the leaves on the tree - Biggest one's first.

about 2hrs later all leaves were in place and the tree was complete! Yay! I then quickly set up Milla's bed and toys ready for her to come home at lunch time to her new bedroom.... she LOVES it and says goodnight to all the decal animals at night!

Dream work space in a cupboard!

I'm in love!... I want to do this to a cupboard!
Thanks to Sonja from Tied With A Bouw for sharing her find of a gorgeous, amazing and so practical home office. You can check it out on Country Living HERE
This would work so well for little old WAHM me! Our house isn't big enough for me to claim an entire room as a work area but if we were to make use of a cupboard like this I could just close up the doors when not in use and you wouldn't even know it's there - perfect!

So out of pure lust and for a bit of fun I went floating through the web and became my own interior decorator.... I can wish, can't I?
My dream office cupboard would be decorated in all deep berry purple, silver and white and I just LOVED the idea of a Chandelier in the original one so would absolutely make sure I had one of those too!

Wall paper: Eijffinger Bazaar
Chandelier, desk chair, wall organizer: Ikea
Filing cabinet: Office Furniture
Cushion: Target
Potted plants: zgallerie
Laptop: Apple

Giggleberry has been 'Decor Scout'ed...

Giggleberry has been what?? I hear you say...... Let me explain....

I woke this morning to an email from Nikol Carlson, mom of three and owner of the blog - Decor Scout.
Nikol's describes herself on her blog as a "Former Head Hunter and published “Frugalista” taking all the leg work out of hunting down must have home furniture and decor items online".Nikol goes on to say "Decor Scout is a shopping blog. Instead of using the staged pages of magazines to inspire our interior design shopping we are using REAL LIFE pictures of peoples homes posted to flickr.com" Nikol spots the trend, and then does some internet research and shopping for good deals and the DIY version. She then posts the results for all her readers. All the underlined words are links to other websites who are selling the products - EASY!
This is where Giggleberry comes in.... Nikol has come across the fabulous idea (I'm not biased... much) of decorating with bunting flags and posted about it just the other day HERE saying "This is a great concept for a nursery or childs play room" and even suggests "if your child has a beautiful outfit that they have out grown and you want to make a keepsake out of it" making them into flags would be a great idea! then linked this post to Giggleberry's etsy shop telling her readers "it's a great place to buy them from" - what a compliment!!
Thanks Nikol so much for passing this on... you now have another follower for your great ideas out of me!!

Nikol inspired me to find some pic's of great ways to decorate with bunting flag banners.... here are just some of the pics I found!

I bet you can come up with thousands of more ways to use these flags?????
