Halloween Window Silhouette DIY

Bit by bit I have been adding spooky Halloween decorations to our house. Since hanging the wreath I made HERE on our front door on Oct 1st I have added a huge fairy lit spiders web, covered our front door in fake spiders web, created a HUGE plastic spider that sits on our front lawn and of course hung some Giggleberry bunting in Halloween colours in one of our front windows too... but I can't show you it all because I'm not finished yet. So I thought I'd just show you a sneak peek and how I did it.
Window silhouettes! I love the idea of these - they are super cheap and easy to make yourself but when seen at night with interior lights on behind them they look rather spooky and effective.

What You'll Need:
Black contact (I found some at my local newsagent for $3 a roll)
Scissors
Pen
Template of what silhouette you want to make (I went with bats and found templates galore with a quick search on Google Images)
Heavy object like a large book - I used these to keep the roll of contact flat while drawing my bats on it so it didn't roll up.

Grab your template - I just searched 'bat silhouette' in Google Images then choose 3 I liked, blew them up the size I wanted then cut them out. Then place your roll of black contact, unrolled on a table right side facing down, holding the corners down with your heavy objects. Go crazy tracing around your template/s - I just kept tracing my 3 different bat silhouettes until I ran out of space. Next grab your scissors and cut, cut, cut out your silhouette/s.
Now you're ready to stick! Give your window a quick clean before you start to be sure the silhouettes stick well. Then go nuts - stick away until you have the desired look... I tried to have no real pattern to my bats so they looked like they were really flying then hung the one sleeping one from part of the window frame - cool hey?

Told you they were easy to make and don't just stick with bats you can do whatever you like.... a black cat, pumpkins, snakes, rats, broom sticks or how about this one I found on Pinterest A witch stirring her poison in her cauldron!

Jingle (in your Sox) all the way...

It's getting closer and closer to the 'Silly Season'. For some that's a scary thought but for me it's so exciting!
I LOVE Christmas!!
The decorating, the gift buying, the family get togethers, the holidays, the food, the gift giving, the long summer days that end in a day light savings night, gift receiving... EVERYTHING!

So in anticipation of Christmas decorating our new home for the first time in just a few short months I couldn't go past a set of Jingle Sox from the uber talented Jenny of Deekie Belle Designs.
I asked Jenny to make 5 Jingle Sox, one for each member of our family and gave just the instruction of sticking to the colour combo our tree is decorated: black, silver and white.

Just look at the absolutely gorgeous Jingle Sox Jenny came up with!!

I LOVE them soooo much!! Each one even has it's own embroidered name tag on it so Santa will never get confused!!

I can't wait for the 1st of December to put these guys up!! Yay!

Kids rooms finished!

I have found a quiet moment to finally show you what I have done in the Jr Giggleberry's bedrooms.
Remember HERE I showed you this sneak peak at my ideas?

They have now all come together - Yay!

Milla's room is lime green and purple. I went with these colours as she had a lime green IKEA hippo pattern blanket in her cot as a baby and LOVES it so much she still sleeps with it every night so it lives on the end of her bed on top of her purple doona that she picked out when she went into a 'big girl bed'.

I took this colour scheme into the HUGE tree decal that is the feature of her room by asking for most of the leaves to be lime green and all the acorns and animals to be purple. I have added to this wall a few little birdhouses I couldn't resist from Sweet Little Birdie

I am loving that her room is big enough to have her play kitchen in it without taking over the whole room.

I still adore Milla's custom sewn artworks by Moonmum. A new addition to her room is the fun painted wooden letters from Stix & Stones and my girl wouldn't be satisfied if there wasn't her dress up basket and hobby horse close by too!

and of course no Jr Giggleberry's room would be complete without some bunting!

Onto Capt'n Harrison's room....

This room is 90% done... We still haven't bought a 'big bed' as Harris is still too little to climb up to a big bed but was becoming too much of a monkey to stay in a cot! And because we haven't chosen a bed yet we aren't sure how much space we'll need for it so the plan to mount a real boat steering wheel on his wall that will spin, so Harris can play pirates, is being put off until then.

I have been one lucky girl and won a few giveaways in the past 12 months that has helped me gather the piratey bits for this room. I won the Pirate's Life quote from Quote The Walls and the Harrison's World map in the frame I won from Vidastyle

A bit of bunting above his window and mirrored cupboard is a fun splash of colour!
I'd love to find a beaten up old trunk for his room to be a 'treasure chest' where I could keep all his toys..... hmmmm the hunt is on!

Decorating sneak peak

Up until now we have been renting. Renting = no hooks in walls, no painting, no removing ugly blinds or carpet etc etc. I am not complaining about the house we have called home for the past 4 years but Boy Oh Boy am I excited about decorating the new place!!!

Starting with the little kids rooms I am having a ball decorating. Now there is no need to go 'crazy' and completely start from scratch. Both Milla and Harris have a colour scheme/theme for the bits and pieces they have currently.
Harris = Nautical/Pirate and Milla = Whimsical/birdie
so I have just, let's say "added" to their rooms *wink, wink*

We are yet to actually move into the house (5 sleeps to go) so I don't want to get ahead of myself and promise exactly what the rooms will look like after I play so in the mean time here is a little sneak peak at what I have bought, what they already had and what I would like to get.

Milla's room: Lime green, mint green, purple, lilac and whimsical....

Harris' room: Red, Blue and a touch of black. Yo ho ho It's a Pirates life for me....

Inspiration....

After my recent post HERE about using Giggleberry fabric banners for decorating I got to thinking - what are the many different ways people do use their flag sets?????
So I started a group on the photo sharing website - Flickr. The group is called 'Decorate with Bunting (fabric banners)' and so far the group has grown steadily with a fantastic array of photos - thanks everyone!!!

Click play on the below slideshow to check out the great ways to use the banners!

If you would like to add to the growing collection of photos I'd LOVE to see them - click HERE!

Happy Halloween

I'm sure this day was made just for people like me - with an excuse to dress up and eat all kinds of chocolate and candy, there aren't too many better days of the year!
But sadly in Australia we don't really celebrate Halloween. There might be a few bits of dress up outfits and themed candy in the shops but no one decorates there homes and it's rare that you'll have any little dressed up child knock on your door hoping for a sweet of some kind.
My hubby and I have just returned home after a short trip to the US and being so close to Halloween we were lucky enough to see the holiday lead up.... we saw pumpkins galore, dress up outfits, decorated shop windows and homes from a few pumpkins on the front porch to full blown pretend grave yards built in the front yard!
We must have looked like crazy tourists every time we pulled over to jump out and take photos of peoples homes but I was just amazed at the effort some people put in!!
This one was our favorite... amazing!

We even saw someone's boat that was docked all decorated too. It's not a great photo but if you look closely you can see all the things they have put up including a skeleton in the dingy!!

We had a ball looking at it all and getting caught up in the hype along the way.... I was inspired to go with the spooky halloween thing when we came across this graveyard that had one dying creepy looking tree hanging over some really old head stones and with the old abandoned house in the background I just had to snap a shot in the spirit of Halloween.
Happy Halloween Everyone!! Enjoy!
