What's good? What's bad?..... help please

I'm after your advice, please.
I have decided to bite the bullet and build a Giggleberry Creations web page. With the help of Sarah from Style Me Gorgeous I would love to have a place where customers, wholesale inquiries, absolutely anyone can go to and immediately have a feel for what Giggleberry is all about as well as a place that has links to all things Giggleberry e.g. Twitter, Shop, Blog etc etc.
So now we are in the very early stages of planning I have a few ideas floating around in my head but I would LOVE your help...
* What do you like to see when you visit a web page?
* What do you just hate when visiting a website?
* Do you have a web site? what advice would you give me for making the most out of a web page?

Let me know your thoughts by leaving a comment on this post. Any and all suggestions, comments and advice are very very welcome and much appreciated.

Hey, while your in a helping mood and your on a computer why not send off a quick email nomination for Giggleberry Creations. There are only a few days left to nominate Giggleberry for the inaugural Handmade Kids Rising Star Award and it will only take a few minutes. Just send an email to jemma@handmadekids.com.au with the heading title “NOMINATION“.
In that email tell Jemma (hint: copy and paste the points below) -

Who you Nominate; Giggleberry Creations http.giggleberry.etsy.com
Why you nominate Giggleberry: **your chance to share what you love about Giggleberry's bunting banners**

  2. Hi,
Um I think a website is always a work in progress (well for me anyway)
Personally I like simple clean pages that are easy to navigate to from the home page
Pictures and photos should be the best quality you can get- after all- first impressions count, and the pics ultimately sell your work.
Script - should be concise and easy to read font
    Hope this helps
and best of luck with the site - will look forward to seeing it
    Regards
    Daniele :)

  3. ***What do you like to see when you visit a web page?

    - Consistent branding, colours, fonts and style
    - Good quality images of product or service
    - Not too wordy – enough information without babbling on
    - contact information (address, phone, email etc)

*** What do you just hate when visiting a website?

    - too many sub pages
    - too many clicks to get where you need to be
    - large images that take a long time to load (need to have web friendly size images)
    - don’t use light colours that are hard to read

***Do you have a web site? What advice would you give me for making the most out of a web page?

I have a free website through webs.com and I am also working on a new website via wix.com

I have also been involved with the development of a number of websites – make sure you have a good content management system that allows you to have control of updating text and images.

You don’t want to be forced to have to give you text and pics to a web person to upload for you at a cost. Some CMS are almost like using word

Can I suggest maybe mapping out you different menu levels and links to make life easier.

Also try using different web browsers when the site is live - you want to make sure it looks the same when you use either explorer, safari, firefox etc.

You may also want to learn about Search Engine Optimisation (SEO).

“Search engine optimization (SEO) is the process of improving the volume or quality of traffic to a web site from search engines via "natural" or un-paid ("organic" or "algorithmic") search results as opposed to search engine marketing (SEM) which deals with paid inclusion. Typically, the earlier (or higher) a site appears in the search results list, the more visitors it will receive from the search engine. SEO may target different kinds of search, including image search, local search, video search and industry-specific vertical search engines. This gives a web site web presence.”

In simple terms - Keywords, meta data, Google Page Rankings etc.

You can sign up to “Google Analytics” for free and this will give you great reporting stats to see how much traffic, where your hits are from etc.

    Best of luck!
